The hit drew blood. He looks at his hand in surprise and back to her in wonder.

“Endure. You? A white ape among white men in a white world. You argue about whether to buy two airlines or one? Die today then! Put a tight dress on! Walk around in heels! Make your ass a way for you to get jobs! Have someone tell you to say things in your accent!”

“I am truly sorry about that.” 

“What in the world do you have to endure, Ugol? These episodes? I’ve seen them. They happen. Take your pills and stop feeling sorry for yourself!”

She hurls another piece of wood at him, hitting him once again in the face. He cries out again. Both hands now cover different parts of his face. She is seething.

“I will say this once to you – you stupid, stupid man. Enduring is for victims.  And you – this pitiful? No. No I will not accept it. I have crawled, begged, and clawed my way. I will not do so for your attention. Sabes?”

“Yes.” He says, but she storms out not waiting for his response. 

He watches her leave, savoring her.
